PAGADIAN CITY: Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Reg.
Dir. Emilia Julhajan said Zamboanga Peninsula is organized and primed for
possible effects of typhoon Ruby.
She acknowledged arrangements made by the respective
local government units, as Zampen is reportedly included among areas to
experience the harsh effects of the coming super typhoon.
OCD said bags of rice have been prepared for distribution
to identified evacuation centers as volunteer organizations were likewise mobilized.
Julhajan advised residents in both Zamboanga del
Norte and Sur to take the compulsory precautions as they are expected to
experience the harsh effects of the typhoon.
PAGASA has placed the two provinces in Alert level
C, which are likely to experience 10-20 millimeters of rainfall per hour, with heavy
rains that could make travel dangerous and disrupt electric lines.
Residents should therefore be very alert and take
precautions against water level rise, said OCD.
Local government units in these areas are advised to
have a standby operation center and organize their local CDRRMC and volunteer
organizations to respond to the calamity, it added.
For Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga city, PAGASA categorized
them in Alert levels B and A respectively, which are likely to experience 5-10
millimeters of rainfall per hour and moderate to heavy damage to agriculture.
Residents in these low lying areas are advised to
remain alert for possible evacuation due to flooding and to watch out for
landslides, OCD said.
