ZAMBOANGA CITY: Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday assembled
together the CDRRMC to discuss contingency measures on how to mitigate typhoon
Ruby’s force in case it hits the city.
Based on PAGASA weather forecast, Ruby hit the country’s
area of responsibility last Dec. 4 and is expected to intensify in the coming
hours.
This city is among the 56 areas listed by PAGASA as “critical,”
and is under Alert Level A with rains of 5 to 10 mm/hour and winds of 30 to 45
kph.
The main goal is for zero casualties, said the mayor,
as she tasked village officials to closely monitor the situation in their areas
of responsibility and to identify flood and landslide-prone areas.
Climaco said that in cases of emergencies, village officials
are the immediate ground commanders as identified critical areas are the
coastal areas, river banks and landslide prone areas.
Covered courts are to be the makeshift evacuation
centers.
The CDRRMO, under Assistant City Administrator
Elmeir Apolinario, will closely coordinate with PAG-ASA, PNP and AFP, Coast
Guard, MARINA, Liga ng mga Barangay, CSWD and other agencies in case the
situation will turn from bad to worse.
The DOH and DSWD are on standby.
In worst case scenarios, the CDRRMC also agreed on some
contingency measures such as when, where and how evacuations should take place.
Climaco said regular advisories will be issued to
the people to constantly remind them of safety measures to prevent loss of
lives and properties.
