Tan: We will protect the frontliners

OZAMIZ CITY--Governor Philip Tan has shared his thoughts in a post that he will protect COVID-19 front-liners- the medical personnel, health workers, doctors and nurses, who have been working overtime to treat coronavirus cases, suspected or confirmed, braving great risks to their health in the battle against Covid-19 virus.

Tan said that the Provincial Government and the whole police force of Misamis Occidental commit to make the whole province safe and secure from Covid-19.

He added that he will focus his protection of all doctors, nurses, medical personnel and the people in the province from the unjustified entry and unnecessary travel of persons in our borders.

“Manghinaot me sa cooperation sa tanan.  Let’s obey our rules, kay para ra sad ni natong tanan,” he said.

It has been observed that nurses and doctors fear not only for the patients’ well-being, but also their own and that of their family members with regards to Covid-19 infection.

Today, these health workers have been given suits, gloves, goggles, masks and other adequate equipment when in contact with COVID-19 patients and ensure their working environment is safe enough for them not to fall victim to the virus.

Early this month, Senator Sonny Angara has aired hi call to LGUs to protect the frontliners and their families by putting an end to the discrimination against them, COVID-19 positive, persons under monitoring (PUM) and persons under investigation (PUI) and their families.

Angara said there were reports of acts of discrimination and even cruelty against the frontliners in the fight against COVID-19 in spite of repeated appeals for understanding and compassion for them.

One action of carrying this request is for all local councils to pass their respective ordinances prohibiting acts of discrimination against frontliners, PUIs, PUMs, and their families.

A number of cities have already passed such ordinances in response to reports of discrimination against the health workers in particular.

The Philippine National Police, Angara added, should also be on the lookout for these acts of cruelty against our frontliners. (Michael medina)
